International Organisations
The International Law Section provides legal advice and guidance in relation to legal questions that arise in the framework of the United Nations, including the work of the Security Council, the General Assembly, the International Law Commission, or other international organisations of which the Republic of Cyprus is a member.
More specifically, with regard to the Council of Europe, the Section is actively involved and provides legal support to the representation of the Republic before the Committee of Ministers, which oversees the execution of the ECtHR decisions in the fourth inter-state case of Cyprus against Turkey, as well as in the individual applications against Turkey, which, inter alia, deal with the various violations of human rights as a result of the Turkish invasion and subsequent occupation, and in particular in relation to missing persons, the property rights of the displaced and the property rights of the enclaved.
The Section further participates, representing the Republic, in the Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law (CAHDI) of the Council of Europe.
